

Betty Sue Purvis, 80, of New Haven, Indiana was called home by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, July 7, 2025. She passed peacefully in the privacy and quiet of her home. She was born to Carlie and Lula (Wooten) Bach on April 23, 1945, in Hazard, Kentucky.
Betty married John on November 28, 1961, in Owingsville, Kentucky. The couple had five children: Mike, James, Shirley, Kellie and Carlie.
Betty was a dedicated follower of Jesus. She could often be heard joyfully singing gospel songs around the house. She enjoyed the presence and gatherings of her family for holidays, birthdays, and other special occasions. Family meant the world to her. Betty loved reading her bible, working on jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, and coloring. In her younger years, she loved to cook. She also enjoyed playing cards, BINGO, and a good game of Yahtzee.
Betty worked for many years at Byron Health Center, followed by several years as the food service manager for Holiday Inn. She also volunteered in the nursery at Joy Fellowship Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Kellie (Keith) Smithson; grandchildren, Steven (Lisa) Jackson, Rodney (Tonya) Smithson Jr., Chris (Amanda) Smithson, Tabitha (Andrew) Trzynka, Mike (fiancé Bethany) Smithson, Brandon Gammons, Julee (Nick) Rine; great-grandchildren, Aydan, Taylor and Alyssa Jackson, Madison Martin, Isabella (Cameron) Roach, Regan Smithson, Karter, Finn and Lucas Rine, Gabriella, Cohen, Hudson, and Quinn Trzynka. She was preceded in death by her husband John, four children, five sisters, and three brothers.
A visitation will be on Friday, July 18, 2025, at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Homes - Pine Valley, 1320 East Dupont Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46825, from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM, with a Funeral Service to begin at 1:00 PM. Burial to follow at Lindenwood Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are at the donor’s choice.
Her family, friends, and those that knew and loved her will deeply miss her.
