Carolyn Kay Ewing, 85, of Fort Wayne passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on December 27, 2025. Born in Woodburn, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Saloma (Hochstetler) Delagrange. She was married to the love of her life, Bruce Ewing, for almost 50 years. Carolyn spent a lifetime in the travel industry. She and Bruce both loved traveling to many of the locations she sent her clients to visit.
Carolyn loved her family fiercely and was their greatest cheerleader. She was social, competitive, and known for her playful sense of humor. She loved to travel, shop, play cards, cheer on the Indiana Hoosiers and be in the company of those she adored. Carolyn, (Red) lived up to her name, and it wasn’t just about the color of her hair, but more the vibrancy of her personality! Not to mention her sense of style. If it was colorful or sparkly, it was in her closet. She was one of the best dressed people from head to toe!
A longtime member of Aldersgate Church, Carolyn was devoted to her faith community for over 60 years. She took pride in a clean home, openly disliked cooking, but had a few signature dishes she made just right- sloppy joes and pistachio cake- while famously burning popcorn repeatedly.
Above all, Carolyn will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, her deep love for her family, and the joy she brought into every room she entered. She leaves behind a legacy of laughter, loyalty, and love that will continue to live on through those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Carolyn is survived by her children, Leslie (Mike) Kitch and Rob (Tammi Dunn) Ewing, grandchildren, Maggie Kitch, Michael (Morgan Shannon) Kitch, Thomas Kitch, Sara Ewing, and Ellie Ewing; and her cherished great-granddaughter, Riley Kay Kitch. She is survived by dear friend and companion Richard Stahl. She was one of 11 children, survived by siblings Jacob Delagrange, Dorothy Eberly, and Garry Delagrange.
In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bruce, in 2011, as well as her parents and siblings; Amanda Delagrange, Mary Stoner, Andrew Delagrange, Ora Delagrange, Esther Peters, Viola Yoder, and Robert Delagrange.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 31, 2025, from 10 am-12 pm, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 2417 Getz Road, Fort Wayne, IN, with a celebration of life beginning at 12 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Carolyn’s honor may be directed to Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
