

Cherry Van Tinnin, age 80, was a loving mother of one and an adoring wife to David Tinnin, who went home to be with the Lord on March 19, 2018. Cherry Tinnin was born on May 13, 1944. She was a native of Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was born to the late Bernice Johnson (Parnell Johnson) and Norman Brantley. Cherry passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Lutheran Hospital.
Cherry Van Tinnin was a woman of true compassion. It was a pleasure for her to have served her family and her community. She worked for Grace Lutheran Church for 25 years. Cherry implemented a youth outreach center for all the local children in the neighborhood titled “Youth United.” From back to school drives to Christmas toy giveaways, Cherry Tinnin was a faithful pillar of her community. Not only did she love to service her community, but her unwavering devotion to her family and friends was the most important part to her life.
Cherry enjoyed spending quality time with her family. She had a passion for cooking, and took great pleasure in hosting Sunday dinners for her loved ones. Some of her favorite pastimes were traveling, coloring, and knitting. Cherry was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.
Cherry was also preceded in death by her sisters, Cheryl “Carroll” Brantley, Anita Darcell Johnson, Bettie F. Johnson; brothers, Glenn and Edward Johnson and Frank Hinkle Johnson; a great-granddaughter, Kaliyah Gilmore; great niece, Zakiyyah Jones and brother-in-law, Walter Brunson.
Cherry leaves to cherish many memories and to continue her legacy are her daughter, Regina M. Allen; sisters, Marsha (William) Booker, Sybil Brunson and Nancy Johnson-Gray; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; an aunt, Marrianne Hinkle, the Brantley family; a spiritual sister, Hattie Dunbar; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service Celebrating Cherry’s Life is 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2024 at Shiloh Baptist Church, 2200 Covington Road (46802) with calling one hour prior to service. Rev. Albert A. Walker officiating. Calling also 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2024 at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Homes - Lakeside Park, 1140 Lake Avenue (46805).
