Christie Lynn Berger was called home by her Savior on May 30, 2021 at the age of 55. Christie was born May 20, 1966 to Chester Carol and Katherne Marie (Bryan) Cummings in Willow Springs, Missouri. A graduate of the Willow Springs High School, she played saxophone in the marching band, keyboard for the jazz band and was an accompanist and vocalist in choir, earning many honors. She graduated from Southwest Missouri Baptist University with a double bachelor’s degree in music and music education, and serving on musical ministry teams throughout her time there. She taught music at the Summersville school and other schools before moving to Indiana where she met her husband, Jeffrey. They were married July 24, 1995, in Las Vegas at the Little white wedding chapel, Christie and Jeffrey had three children, Katherne (Katie), Abagail (Abby) and Michael. Christie spent all her life taking care of others, including fostering mentally and physically challenged adults. She was like a mother to Ted, who lived with them for 19 years until his death at age 82 last year. She also was a fairy godmother for a special little girl, Emma, Her home was always open. Her generous heart and loving care soothed and uplifted so many. Christie was always ready with delicious food, “pats”, and a listening ear. Her warm hugs were cherished by all who received one, and babies loved to snuggle with Aunt Christie. Speaking ill of anyone was not permissible in her presence. She always had something positive to say; she encouraged everyone. She was well known for her beautiful soulful voice and sang in college and in her church. Christie loved to make things beautiful. She enjoyed flowers and gardening, sewing and crafts. Many a great-niece, nephew and other little one’s treasure their embroidered pillows and quilts made by her loving touch. Many Weddings, Vacation Bible schools, Children’s Choirs, Woman’s Retreats, Church Events and Holidays have benefited from her hand-made decorations. Christie was greeted joyfully in heaven by her parents, a great-nephew, Enoch Hendricks, a foster son Ted Fulmer, and her grandparents as well as by many nieces, nephews and a daughter (Jennifer Renee) that the world never got to meet, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband of almost 26 years, Jeffrey Brian, and three children, Katherne Sue, Abagail Louise, and Michael Anthony, all of Fort Wayne, Ind.; two sisters, Patricia (Charles) Wiersema of Willow Springs, Mo., and Cynthia (Anthony) Johnson of Haughton, La., A brother, Ronald (Samia) Cummings, of Willow Springs, Mo., a brother-in-law, Greg Berger of Ft. Wayne Ind.; nieces and nephews, Ann (Jack) Hines of Willow Springs, Mo., Sally (Ryan Lawrence) Wiersema of Columbus, Ohio, Sarah Hendricks of Fort Wayne, Ind., Eryn (Barnabas) Hines of Johnson City, Tenn., Nathan (Kayla) Cummings of Rogersville, Mo., Daniel Cummings of Springfield, Mo., Tricia (Stephen) Taylor of Airdrie, Alberta, Canada, Brent (Victoria) Lodrini of Wahiawa, Hawaii, Matthias (Megan) Johnson, Gabriella Johnson, and Arielle Johnson, all of Haughton, La., Clint Davis of Ft. Wayne, Ind., a Step-Daughter, Mandi Sanders, and 27 beloved great-nieces and nephews, Elaine (Steven-Mark) Maine, Samantha (Andrew) Gruber, Sarah Hines, Levi (Marie) Hines, Caleb Hines, Noah Hines, David Hines, Elisabeth Grace Hines, John Quincy Hines, James Elijah Hines, Willem Lawrence, Ezekiel Hendricks, Preston Cummings, Liam Cummings, Elli Cummings, Judah Cummings, Emma Hines, Evie Hines, Josie Hines, Wesley Hines, Olivia Hines, Jubilee Taylor, Hope Taylor, Ian Taylor, Carmen Lodrini, Leia Lodrini, and William Johnson. A visitation will be held at D.O. McCombs Funeral Home on Dupont Road Monday June 14th from 10am to 12 and 2 pm to 4 pm with services will be held at 4 pm with Pastor John Suciu officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of D.O. McCombs Funeral Home.
