

Dan Dawson, age 74, passed away on March 20, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Huntertown, Indiana, he was the son of the late Max and Jeanette (Woebbeking) Dawson. He helped his uncle on the family farm growing up. Dan graduated from Carroll High School in 1970. He was then drafted into the army the same year. He was sent to Augsburg, Germany where he served in the Big Red 1 first infantry division as a SP4 tank driver until his release in April of 1972. His hard work and generous spirit continued throughout his life as he worked several jobs. Each one left him with lasting friendships. He especially loved spoiling his grandchildren. Dan is survived by his sister, Connie (and Tim) Carey and Gail Papaik. He was preceded in death by his brother Dennis Dawson and his brother-in-law Bill Papaik. Dan was married 54 years to his wife, Barbara (Raub). His memories will be forever cherished by his daughter, Rachel Anne; son Jeffrey Ryan (and Renee); five grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and nine step great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior at St. John's Lutheran Church, 7914 W. Cook Road, Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Visitation will also be held on 1:00 PM – 8:00 PM Monday, April 7, 2025, at the church. A private burial will be held at a later date. Preferred memorials are to St. John's Lutheran Church or the Fort Wayne VA Medical Center.
