David “Dave” Brett Krieg, 62, died Sunday, September 28, 2025, in the Intensive Care Unit at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne after valiantly fighting against his multiple medical conditions. Dave had a big heart until the final beat and NEVER knew a stranger.
Born September 21, 1963 in Kendallville, Dave remained a lifelong Indiana resident, settling in Fort
Wayne in 1989, where he met the love of his life, Sheryl Erk. They married May 12, 1990 and
persevered through 35 years together.
Dave LOVED watching and attending NASCAR races with cousins, Dean Terman, Dave Emrick Jr. (JR) and Steven Emrick, and with his best friend, Gordon Ehm, and his partner, Julie Acuna Boatman. Trips were full of adventure and memories for all involved. Kevin Harvick was his favorite driver and Dave traveled the country to meet him on several occasions. Dave would take as many people with him to meet and greets so Dave could collect more autographs. Dave had an extensive collection of Kevin Harvick memorabilia.
Dave graduated from East Side High School in 1983 and would often travel to meet with classmates and plan class reunions. Dave listened to classic rock groups, especially STYX, Boston and The Eagles and recently attended his last concert with his son, Jesse Krieg (of Kalamazoo, Mich.), and Gordon, where they saw The Eagles, STYX and REO Speedwagon - it was the best of times.
Dave previously worked as a network administrator at OmniSource and Fort Financial Credit Union in their IT departments. Besides his wife and son, Dave is survived by daughter, Kimberly Krieg of Fort Wayne; special sons, William Tucker Jr. and James Payno, both of Fort Wayne; brothers, Michael Krieg of Garrett, and James Krieg of Amory, Mississippi; nephews, nieces, cousins, and the light of his life, grandson, Maxwell Jude, who affectionately called Dave his “Paw Paw.”
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and his brother, Mark Allen Krieg.
Memorials may be made to St. Michael Lutheran Church.
Dave also supported in recent years Til Valhalla Project (www.tilvalhallaproject.com), an organization that preserves the legacies of our Fallen Heroes, as well as 9/11 Memorial & Museum.
Funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 6750 Covington Rd., Ft. Wayne, IN 46804 with visitation from 9 am to 11 am.
Entombment will occur in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Ft. Wayne, IN.
