DAVID G. OAKES, 61, of Fort Wayne, died on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014, at his home. Born March 4, 1953, in Fort Wayne, he was the son of Mary Jane (Sullivan) Oakes and the late George Oakes. He served in the Air National Guard, and worked for Wayne Asphalt. Also surviving are his daughter, Kimberly Oakes of Roanoke; former wife, Michelle Oakes of Roanoke; an aunt, a nephew, a niece and numerous cousins. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph and Alan. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, at Sonrise Church-Roanoke Campus, with visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Pastor Randy Samuels officiating. Visitation also from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 2014, at C.M. Sloan & Sons Funeral Home, 1327 N. Wells St., Fort Wayne. Burial in Covington Memorial Gardens. Preferred memorials to the church.
