Dennis “Denny” H. Hockemeyer, 73, of Ft. Wayne, died suddenly Saturday, May 20, 2023. He was born September 29, 1949, the son of the late Harold and June Hockemeyer of Monroeville, IN and was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Ft. Wayne. Denny taught and coached at East Allen County Schools for his entire 40-year career. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Teresa, two children Angela (Fred) Perry and Ryan Hockemeyer. He is also survived by grandchildren Wesley and Leila Perry, his sister Sandy (Mark) Timm, his niece Kelly (Andy) Filipowicz and nephew Chris Seeley.
Denny was loved and admired by many, from his family and friends in Ft. Wayne and Ft. Myers, to the thousands of students and athletes he taught and coached, as well as the students who had him as their drivers ed instructor. An alumnus of Ball State University, Denny played Volleyball for the legendary Dr. Don Shondell and was a brother in Sigma Chi. He went on to excel as an educator, making a lifelong impact on countless lives.
Denny was a die-hard IU and Colts fan. If there was a game on, you could count on the team flag flying from his flagpole and finding him perched in his favorite recliner, possibly with a bowl of his favorite ice cream, cheering them on. In retirement, Denny loved to spend time in Florida with Teresa and their friends, entertaining and hosting family and friends who came to visit. If you were one of Denny’s neighbors, you knew he had the best lawn in the neighborhood, and it was best for you to simply admire, rather than try to keep up. Euchre was a must at any gathering with Denny and you had to always keep an eye on him and the tricks he had up his sleeve.
He was simply the best! The best husband, father, brother, son, uncle, coach, teacher, and friend anyone could ever ask for. The family would be honored to see all whose lives were touched by Denny at the visitation and memorial service and to celebrate his life together with you.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Concordia Lutheran Church and School, the “Negative Space”, or “The Mom of an Addict, Inc.”
