I known Don since I was a little kid when I started to go to the Waynedale Branch Library and he was a good and friendly guy I have talk to all the time when I went to the  Waynedale Library until I moved out of Waynedale and into North Central Fort Wayne. Don will be missed. 


Don was an essential part of my library experience growing up. Going back as far as I can remember, Don was there to help everyone in my family find the specific materials that interested them. He was personable, kind, and a friend to us library “regulars”.  When I had my wisdom teeth taken out, he was the one that hand-picked materials to get me through that painful week. I’m so saddened to hear about this loss, but glad to know he led a full and wonderful life.

Don hired me to work as a shelver in the children's section of the Waynedale Branch Library as a junior in high school.   He was the best boss - always cheery, knowledgeable,  and ready to assist the public with their book needs.  He was a kind, patient man.  I live in Texas now and just heard of his passing.  I'm so sorry. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.  May God comfort and keep you. May your memories sustain you.

Dear Jeannie, 
     I am so sorry to hear about Don. I remember the day you moved next door to Mom and Dad. You and Don were great towards my parents and I appreciate it to this day. 
    Don was always so nice to my granddaughter when we took her on Tuesday to the children’s hour at the library. He is in good company in heaven and I know my Mom welcomed him with a hug. 
     God bless you and the kids during this difficult time. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Don was such a gracious man. My husband, children, and I were patrons at Waynedale Library for decades.  He was firm about rules of library behavior with young people; yet so kind and patient with every one of them. He mourned with our family at the loss of my husband of 45 years. He will be missed. 

Two weeks at the Waynedale Branch Library with Don was the first stop on my Grand Tour when I was hired at the library. It was the best two weeks of my Tour. 

Don was the perfect person to introduce me to ACPL. He was an appropriate mix of a traditional library professional and a modern, progressive library manager. He had an innate sense of how to create a family at work, how to make the work fun, and how to establish a branch where everyone felt welcome. 

As the years sped by, I never saw Don lose his enthusiasm for his staff or his branch.  He never turned down an opportunity to help others. I will never forget him, and he will be sorely missed. 

My deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

I was so lucky to have worked with Don for almost thirty years at the Waynedale Library.  He taught me more than he ever realized.  He was a disciplined man, knowledgeable in countless subjects, full of boundless energy.  Don created a fine family at home and at the Waynedale Library.  I treasure the many laughs we shared.  My love to Jeannie, Simon, Jesse and Martha and his beloved grandchildren.  

Don was a wonderful guy.  He worked harder than just about anyone I know.  Though I didn't get to work with him very often, he certainly left an impression.  

I was so saddened to hear of Don's passing. He was a wise, wonderful, and caring colleague & mentor to me. I know how much he was enjoying spending time with his grandkids in retirement, and I wish he had had much more time to do so. Sending comfort and peace to his wife and family. 

Don was such a great guy!  Smart, funny, a wonderful co-worker and friend.  My sympathies to Jeanne, Simon, Jesse, Martha, and the grandchildren that he so enjoyed.  He will be missed very much.

I am very grateful for the many years I spent working at the library with Don. I admired his leadership and appreciated his friendship and guidance.  I am  deeply saddened by his death and will continue to keep both him and his family in my thoughts and prayers.

Was one of the best.  He ran his branch with lots of wisdom and ran one of the most effecient   branch in Allen County I have so much I want to say but don't know how to say it.
 He is missed.  He treated everyone the same way he wanted to be treated. 
My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.

Don was a fine librarian, a fine library manager and a premier family man. He was my primary mentor in librarianship and generously helped me create a second career. He had tremendous directed energy for his work -- hustling like a kid but with the wisdom of experience.  He was also a good friend, and I'm saddened for his  family and the rest of us that he had to leave us so soon. I'm glad he had at least a little retirement time to be super-grandpa, but I wish he had had much more.
