

ERNEST J. BAUER, 84, of Fort Wayne, died peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home. Born Dec. 21, 1926, in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late Ernest J. and Edna Bauer Sr.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II and Korean War. He retired from General Telephone Company in 1988. He was a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church where he was a collection accountant and an active member of Jim Eby VFW Post 857 where he served as Sergeant of Arms. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing cards.
Surviving are his sons, Thomas Bauer and Paul (Diane) Bauer; daughter, Margaret (Barry) McClurg; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (Naomi) Bauer; sister, Donna Waters; and sister-in-law, Janet Kampschmidt. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Shirley J. (Fisher) Bauer, in 2005.
Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church, 1500 West State Boulevard, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011, at C.M. Sloan & Sons Funeral Home, 1327 North Wells Street. Burial at Highland Park Cemetery, with military honors. Memorials to Queen of Angels Catholic Church Maintenance Fund, or Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home.
