Esther Helmke,104, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2023. Born on June 18, 1918 in Albion, Indiana to the late O.P. and Grace (Peyton) Prickett. She worked with Fort Wayne Community Schools in the Cafeteria for over 20 years. Esther was a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the mother singers and the choir at St. John's. Esther had a passion for traveling, doing puzzles, and journaling. She is survived by her children, Richard "Kim" (Kathleen) Helmke and Holly Helmke; grandchildren, Kevin Brubaker, Brian (Abby) Helmke, and Carrie (Dustin) Parmley; great-grandchildren, Quinten and Asia Brubaker, Devin and Titan Helmke, and Ashlynn and Aubrie Parmley; great-great-granddaughter, Parklynn Helmke; and numerous nieces and cousins. Esther was also preceded in passing by her husband, Richard Helmke; and her siblings. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 729 W. Washington Blvd, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46802 with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be held from 6:00-8:00pm on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, 6424 Winchester Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46819. Burial to follow the service at Concordia Lutheran Cemetery, 1801 Maumee Avenue, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46803.
