Forrest G. (Frosty) Jewell, 97, Green Bay, WI, formerly of Ft. Wayne, IN, died on January 18, 2015. He was born May 11, 1917, in Mercer County, Ohio, to Ray and Edith Jewell. Following graduation from Rockford High School, Rockford, OH, Frosty worked on road construction with his father until he was drafted into the Army during World War II, serving as a member of the 14th Armored Division in Germany. He married Glendola Groth on June 6, 1943, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Rockford, OH. Frosty and Glendola moved to Ft. Wayne soon after the war ended where he began working at May Sand and Gravel Company. There, he blasted the first stone from the ground for what eventually became May Stone Company. He retired from the company, now Hanson on Ardmore Ave., Ft. Wayne.
Frosty enjoyed bowling and golf and serving wherever he could help at his church. Even more, he enjoyed teasing his “girls” and others: tickling, turtles in his lunch box when he got home from work, blasting the air horn on his truck when you least expected it, etc. He was famous in the family for driving around every detour sign we came to, just to see what they were doing to the road ahead.
Frosty and Glendola had three daughters: Suzanne (Dennis) Schatt, Green Bay, WI; Luanne (James) Krantz, Rockport, TX; and Linda (Max) Proffitt, Traverse City, MI. In addition to their daughters, Frosty is survived by five grandchildren, Robert Schatt (Jen Theney), Bloomington, MN; Steve Schatt (Amy), Afton MN; Kristin Daniels (Chris), Plymouth, MN; Brian (Shay) Vollmar, Lexington, KY; and Eric (Niki) Vollmar,Mt. Pleasant, MI; and eleven grandchildren: Benjamin, Emma, Sophia, Julia, and Alexander Schatt, Joshua and Isaac Daniels, Noah Hill, Jacob and Madilyn Vollmar and Zak Russell. He is further survive by nephews Dana (Rhonda) Runnion, Duane (Sheila) Hines, and Donald (Karen) Hines and nieces Charlene Hawk and Miriam (Bob) Fetters.
Frosty was preceded in death by his wife, Glendola; his parents; two sisters and their husbands, Arlene and Bob Runnion and Mary Ellen and Carl Hines; and his sister-in-law and her husband, Thelma and Bill Hawk; one nephew and his wife, Roger and Connie Hawk; and one niece, Theresa Runnion Taylor.
