

Frank graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1951. He was drafted into the army in 1952. While in basic training Frank was picked to play on the baseball and basketball traveling teams. After basic training he served in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1955. After leaving the service, he returned to Fort Wayne and became an electrician and worked for City Light & Power and later AEP. He managed youth baseball for over 20 years winning the Little League Baseball City Championship in 1969 and the State Mickey Mantle Baseball Championship in 1976. He also coached in the PAL youth football league for many years, also winning a championship. He spent over 40 years refereeing high school and small college basketball and football games. He refereed the 1982 Indiana State High School Football State final game and later the Indiana North-South All-Star Football Game. He also refereed numerous high school basketball playoff games. For many years Frank was in charge of recruiting and scheduling the officials for most of the Fort Wayne area. He always said he never paid any attention to fan comments and definitely never let an irate fan get to him. He was also an entrepreneur and owned a home inspection business for many years.
Frank married his wife, Janet, in 1957 and they were married for 58 years. She preceded Frank in death in 2015. Frank and Jan loved Caribbean cruises, and attending their children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. He loved fishing and was an avid fan of both Notre Dame and Indiana University.
Frank is survived by his children, Kim Coffee of Ft. Wayne, and her children Brendon Coffee and Brittany (Michael) Schott and their three children; Camryn, Radford and Rory: Dr. Steve (Susan) Hoagburg of Ft. Wayne and their three children; Dr. Michael Hoagburg; Dr. Brian (Emma) Hoagburg and their two children; Fritz and Finn; Dr. Rachel (Dr. Ryan Natal) Hoagburg: Caroline (Paul) Lindemann of Cincinnati OH and their three children; Madeleine, Leah, and Audrey: Scott Hoagburg of Liberty Lake, WA and his children; Colton Hoagburg; Jessica (Zach) Koontz and their daughter Addalyn.
Frank was preceded in death by parents, Gustav and Edith Hoagburg; brothers Wallace and Eugene; sisters, Ola, Maria, Elizabeth Johnson and Patricia Johnson and daughter-in-law, Cheri Hoagburg.
A Funeral Service will be on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 11:00 am, at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Homes- 1320 E Dupont Rd, Fort Wayne, IN 46825, with visitation prior to the service from 9:00 am - 11:00 am.
Preferred memorial donations may be made out to the Police Athletic League (PAL) Fort Wayne.
