

George T Drysdale, age 95 passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2022. George was born in Toronto, Ontario. He was the son of the late William and Isabella (Gridley) Drysdale and was one of five children. He started to play semi-pro hockey in 1946 at the age of 19 for Stratford, Ontario in the Ontario Hockey League, from 1947-1950. He was a member of the Stratham England hockey team in the British Hockey League, where he was a member of the 100 goal club and played in front of Queen Elizabeth. On November 27, 1950 George married the love of his life Rosemary Boyle. He was a member of Chatham Maroon Hockey of the IHL from 1950-1952. In 1952 he moved to Fort Wayne to become a member of The Fort Wayne Komets of the IHL, he went on to play thru the 1955 season. He has many accolades as a Komet player including being the first captain, the first to score a goal, and the first to score a hat trick. After playing hockey he did color commentary, was an off ice official and did press box security. He was an active member of Most Precious Blood Catholic Church; where he served as an usher, and a member of Knights of Columbus as well as many other organizations at PB. As well as activity with the Wells Street corridor. He worked for Old Crown Brewery, Falstaff Brewery, and retired from AALCO Distributers. George enjoyed Fort Wayne, going back to Canada, visiting Toronto, Cooks Lake, and Bowling Green, Kentucky; visiting family, and working at the food bank. He is survived by two sons, Daniel (Diane) Drysdale and Timothy (DeDe) Drysdale; grandchildren, Tabitha(Adam)Craig, Tony(Janelle) Drysdale, and Bradley Drysdale; great-grandchildren, Emma, Baylee, Carter, Kasey, Cecelia, Olivia, Benjamin, and Jackson. George was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Rosemary (Boyle) Drysdale. A visitation for George will be held Tuesday, October 18, 2022 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at C.M. Sloan and Sons Funeral Home, 1327 North Wells Street, Fort Wayne, IN 46808. A mass of Christian Burial will occur Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at 10:00 AM with visitation one hour prior to service at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, 1529 Barthold St, Fort Wayne, IN 46808. Memorial donations in George’s honor may be made to Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, or Humane Fort Wayne.
