

Gladys I. Squires, 98, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2016, surrounded by her family. She was born on November 13, 1917, in Whitley County, the daughter of the late Grover and Estella (Shively) Jagger. Gladys was a registered nurse having graduated as valedictorian of her class from Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing. She worked at Lutheran Hospital, a urology doctors’ office, and retired from FWCS as a school nurse in 1985. She was a faithful member of Lincolnshire Church of the Brethren.
Gladys was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved to read, quilt, and birdwatch. She was an avid IU basketball fan, keeping her own stats for each game.
Surviving are her children Judith (Joseph) Henderson of Ft. Wayne, Janet (Ben) Eichorst of South Bend, Jeffrey (Mary) Squires, of Windfall; her grandchildren Tricia (Joe) Ugland, Matthew (Abbie) Henderson, Tamara Eichorst, Tyler Eichorst, Megan (Matt) Beaver, Sarah (Brad) Richmond, and Margaret (Michael) Neese, and 9 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Claren, and her sisters Evelyn Kimmel, Lois Gandy, Mabel McCoy, Ruth Pickett, and Madeline Hively.
Services will be at 11 am Friday, April 22, 2016, at Lincolnshire Church of the Brethren, 6404 S. Calhoun St., with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm Thursday, April 21, 2016, at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, 420 W. Wayne St.
Preferred memorials are to Lincolnshire Church of the Brethren or Turnstone.
