GORDON "GORDY" S. TURNER, JR., 93, of Fort Wayne, passed away in his sleep on Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, shortly after he had just celebrated his 93 birthday on Sept. 26, 2013 with his family and friends present. He graduated from North Side High School and went on to further studies at Manchester College. He had a twin brother, Gaylord (deceased) and a sister Carolee who currently resides in Florida. He was an avid fisherman, golfer, conversationalist, a good friend to everyone who knew him and a "Great" father. He never met a stranger!! He was the most valuable football player in high school in both his Junior and Senior years. Pretty amazing when you consider that he was born in 1920 with polio. Gordy and Phyllis were native to the Fort Wayne area. They lived on Round Lake for 38 years, and due to mobility concerns, Gordy chose to move to Woodview Assisted Living in Fort Wayne on March 1, 2013. Gordy and his wife Phyllis Barbara Turner (deceased) were married for 67 years. Phyllis passed away on Nov. 24, 2008. Surviving are their two children, Stephen C. Turner and Linda E. Kimmel. He also had six grandchildren, Steve Turner Jr., Jason Kimmel, Tim Turner, Caleb Kimmel, Heather Turner, and Kara Burch; and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services is 1 PM Monday, Sept. 30, 2013 at Greenlawn Funeral home, with calling from 11 AM to 1.
