

It is with a sad heart that we announce the passing of Grace Elizabeth Reed, 96, of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Grace went to see the Lord on the morning of February 18, 2026, after a brief hospital stay. Born in Walton, Indiana to Bertha (Watson) and Grover Spohn in 1929. Grace graduated from high school in 1947 as 1 of 8 in her class. At age 19 she married John Ruskin Reed Jr. and soon after had their son, Walter Joseph Reed. Grace resided in Walton, Logansport and Terre Haute until Fort Wayne became her home in 1963.
Grace was a spunky, independent, and truly kind woman. She had warmth and love in her being. Grace was a woman who believed in her words, and she carried her big Indiana heart everywhere she went. She was involved in her community, many organizations, and church, and Grace loved her family with all her heart. She was a member of the Daughters of the Nile and held many offices in the Business & Professional Women (BPW) organization. Grace was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church for 64 years, volunteering for the greeting card glory ministry. She also enjoyed her volunteer work at the Johnny Appleseed Festival.
She worked at General Telephone and retired after 25 years of service. she spent the following 12 years as a bookkeeper at Crossroad Florists. Her later years included visiting and enjoying time with her family and many, many friends.
Grace is survived by her son, Walter Joseph “Joe” (Lori Appel) Reed; grandson, Jonathan (Terry) Reed; niece, Ramona (Michael) Komasinski; nephews Sam Bowles and Jayme Cassell; great nieces and nephew, Erin (Scott) Foster, Amanda (Jeffery) DeMass, Michael Komasinski II, Nicole (Andrew) Hower; and great-great nieces and nephew, Morgan and Wynnifred Foster, William DeMass, Charlotte and Avery Hower. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Reed; infant son, Paul Reed; parents, Grover Spohn and Bertha Spohn Goltz; sister, Rose Mary Bowles; and brother-in-law, Charles Bowles.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at Messiah Lutheran Church, 7211 Stellhorn Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana, 46815, with visitation one hour prior. Burial to follow the service at Highland Park Cemetery.
A special thanks goes out to all of her friends who supported her throughout her life but especially, Malinda Bennett, Kris Ohneck, Danny Rice, Sheila Stuckey, Dave & Jaci Beard, Jan Johnson, Chuck and Jeanne Lewis. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church.
