Harold L. Brooks, 88, of Leo, passed away on December 7, 2025. He was born on July 10, 1937, in Coal Grove, Ohio, the son of the late Leslie and Clara (McFarland) Brooks. Harold was a longtime member of East Allen Church of Christ, where he faithfully worshiped and served for more than 38 years. A man of deep and steady faith, his greatest desire was to serve Jesus well—not just in words, but in daily life through generosity, service, and care for others.
He retired from BF Goodrich after 35 years of dedicated work as a machinist. Retirement didn’t slow Harold down. He volunteered regularly through his church and with numerous charitable efforts, and he continued working at Bob Evans on Dupont Road well into his 80s—proof that his strong work ethic and love for people never faded.
Harold was known for his ornery sense of humor and playful teasing. He liked to act gruff and grumpy, but those who truly knew him understood that beneath the tough exterior was a man who loved deeply and fiercely. He took great pride in his family and the way they loved one another, creating a close-knit bond even though most of his children were adults when he and his wife married. Harold embraced every role fully—husband, father, grandfather, and friend—with intention, loyalty, and care.
He had a special affection for his dogs, who brought him great joy and companionship. Harold also enjoyed traveling, crafting handmade cards, and spending quality time with the people he loved most.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Judy Brooks; children, Luana (John) Cunningham, Laurie Arnett, Tim Shauver, Debi (Burt) Rutledge, and Matt (Sara) Brooks; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was also preceded in death by his beloved granddaughter, Rachel Brooks.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 15, 2025, at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, 6424 Winchester Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46819, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Donations in memory of Harold may be made to East Allen Church of Christ.
