Helen Nadine Miller

Helen Nadine (Dove) Miller, age 99, of New Haven, Indiana passed away on Monday, March 17, 2025. Helen was born in Fort Wayne, IN to Ray and Dorothy Dove. Helen married Albert G. Miller in 1950. She was Baptized in 1958 at Concordia Lutheran Church and as a family she and Al joined Emanuel Lutheran Church, in 1965 when they moved to New Haven, Indiana. They worked in and around the church for many years. Helen and Al both loved gardening and would work in the garden and go through the neighborhood and selling their vegetables.

Helen worked at Wayne Plastics in Fort Wayne from where she would eventually retire. She also sold Amway for years before selling Home Interiors. Helen worked at Gladieux Refinery for 23 years and Perfection Bakery for 9 years.

Helen was a member of the American Legion Post #330 for 50 years. She served in every office and held a position on the board throughout the years. She was known for organizing the bake sales at the Legion and was known for her carrot cake. Helen also was known for the annual poppy campaign. Her motto was "Buy a poppy, help a vet." She helped raise hundreds of dollars for projects to benefit veterans. Helen cleaned houses until she reached 90 years of age. She loved to play Bingo with her friend Emma. Helen looked forward to going to the First Baptist Church for the luncheon with friend Diana Adams, called PEP (People Enjoying People) and on Fridays she would go out to eat with friends, Ann Zepke and Etta and Robert Hamilton.

Helen is survived by her granddaughter, Tracy Gillespie and grandson, Blake (Maria) Gillespie. She is remembered by five great-grandchildren, Trista (Fabian) Gillespie, Breauna (Devonante) James, Blake Gillespie II, Christian Raab, Kristin (Shane) Stahl; eight great-great-grandchildren, Ja'Shon, Janae, Jeremiah Gillespie, Shalon Bell James, Jaliyah Gillespie, Vienna and Bellamy Stahl, Destiney James; and one great-great-great-grandchild, Kendal Gillespie.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years; their daughter, Victoria Gillespie; son-in-law, Frank Gillespie; brothers, Everett Dove, Donald Dove and Robert Dove; and sister, Mary Elizabeth Dove.

Special friends and family that helped Tracy care for Helen were, grandson, JaShon Gillespie; niece, Linda Douglas; nephew, Steve Douglas; Tim and Patricia Watts, Betty Holmes, Cathy Mackin, Julie Gunn, Terri Stewart and the Women's Auxiliary of American Legion Post #330.

She will be remembered by her close friends, Mark Gladieux, Sandy Parisot, Ann Zepke, Etta and Robert Hamilton, Diane Adams, Betty Holmes and Becky Beardsley.

Funeral service will be 1:00 PM, Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at D.O. McComb and Sons Funeral Homes - Maplewood Park Chapel, 4017 Maplecrest Rd, Fort Wayne, IN 46815 with visitation one hour prior. Family will greet friends on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 and the funeral home from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
