Howard “Howie” George Lininger, 94, passed away February 13, 2025, at Lutheran Life Villages at Pine Valley, in Fort Wayne, IN. He was born October 23, 1930, in Wesleyville, PA, the son of Howard and Bertha.
Howard graduated from East High School in Erie PA, in 1948, he earned a Bachelor of Theology from St. Paul Bible College, St. Paul, MN, in 1952, and a Bachelor of Sacred Music in 1955. He also had Bachelor of Music Education from Mac Phill College of Music, Minneapolis MN, 1956, and a Master’s in Music Education from Indiana State University, 1976.
He taught music for East Allen Co. Schools for 23 years and retired in 1986. Howard was the Music Director at Immanuel Baptist Church and Memorial Baptist Church in Fort Wayne. Howard was longtime member of the Fort Wayne Area Community Band and had the opportunity to play with many of his former students. He was an avid artist and painter and enjoyed genealogy research.
He is survived by his children, Carole (Tom) Matthews of Fort Wayne, IN; H. Douglas (Sue) Lininger of Windsor, VA; Scott B. (Kristin) Lininger of Fort Wayne, IN; 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and sister, Shirley Waite of Erie, PA.
Howard was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Joan Lininger, and sister, Betty Green.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 am Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at North Park Community Church, 7160 Flutter Road, Fort Wayne, IN, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation also from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at D.O. McComb and Sons Funeral Homes - Maplewood Park, 4017 Maplecrest Road, Fort Wayne, IN.
