

James proudly served in WWII in the Navy and was a sailor at heart for the rest of his life, as he loved sailing his sailboat daily in Florida.
He retired from Indiana Michigan Electric Power Company following a career as Director of marketing and customer service. James retired in 1985 to pursue his entrepreneurship and investing in real estate.
He always worked hard for his family and paid tuition for each one of his grandchildren, from grade school though receiving their master’s degree.
James always brought joy to others, whether it was through greeting others through song or playing his harmonica. His grandchildren' s favorite song was “You are my Sunshine”. He never met a stranger and always said hi to everyone.
He will be remembered for his famous saying “get off your seat and on your feet”
James is survived by his son, Keith (Dianne) Hughes of Columbia, City, IN; daughter Amy (Dan) Lose of Fort Wayne, IN; five grandchildren, Patrick Hughes, Chris Hughes, Chad Lose, Scott Lose, Ryan Lose and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Arlene C. “Pete” Hughes.
Private burial will take place at Highland Park Cemetery in Fort Wayne, IN.
Memorials may be made to Riley Hospital for Children.
