

James L. Russell, age 90, of Huntertown, passed away on January 13, 2026. He was born on September 30, 1935, to James K and Alice (Coy) Russell. He graduated from Lawrence Central High School near Indianapolis; and in 1955, he married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Wallace. "Jim" went on to attend Tri-State College and graduated with a degree in civil engineering.
He spent his career as a Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor which included time as Lagrange County Surveyor. He started Diversified Engineering Associates and later became a partner at Schnelker Engineering, and then Russell Engineering Associates. He was a past president of the Northeast Chapter of the Indiana Society of Professional Land Surveyor's. He also enjoyed the time that he spent on the board of directors for Northeastern REMC and Wabash Valley Power.
He and Margaret raised four children in a home filled with love, pets, songs, and laughter. Jim and Margaret traveled to many adventurous locations and made friends everywhere they went. After retirement, they spent 15 years living on the beautiful emerald coast of Florida before returning to Indiana to be near family. Jim was a volunteer at the Navarre Library. An active member of the Navarre Senior Center where he served as President of the board, also acted in and directed their mystery dinners.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; son Kenneth (Julia); son Scott (Linda); daughter Tina (Bill) Blomeke and daughter Cheri Russell; brother Tom (Pat) Russell; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
The family will host a celebration of life in the spring.
