He was born in Fort Wayne on December 10, 1944, to the late Carroll and Priscilla (Lambert) Ramsey. He graduated from North Side High School and attended Indiana University Fort Wayne before being drafted into the US Army in 1966 where he trained as a combat medic. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he began his work life at Phelps Dodge/Rea, International Harvester, UPS Air Freight, and several other employers. In retirement he enjoyed his work at the Helen P. Brown Natatorium.
He was the loving and devoted caretaker of his mother and sister in their declining years. Forced to grow up early after his father died when he was twelve, Jerry became the de facto father to his younger brother Tod and later to his niece, Holly. Jerry loved anything related to cars and boats, drove like a maniac, and cherished his time at the family cottage on Lake James. The family loved hearing his stories of growing up in the small town of Blue Mound, IL in the 1950s.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Anne Ramsey.
Jerry is survived by his brother Tod (Laura) Ramsey of Fort Wayne; nieces, Holly Higgins (Alan) of Okemos, MI, Brittany Ramsey (Clayton Bennett) of Evansville, IN, and Hannah Ramsey of Boston, MA. Nephews, Dustin Ramsey (Shannon) of Fort Wayne, and Collin (Katelyn) Ramsey of Bloomington, IN.
