John J. Matera, 84, passed away Saturday Aug. 29, 2015. He was born in Elizabeth, NJ to the late John and Estelle Matera Sr. He served in the U.S. Army and retired in 1999 as Sales Manager for Phelps Dodge and was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church, St. Vincent DePaul Society, Franciscan Center and was a Seton Hall University graduate. He was a devoted husband, father and coach who tirelessly volunteered his time and talents to community charities. He lived his faith daily. He had a passion for auto racing, Frank Sinatra and Big Bands, New Jersey and golf.
Surviving are his wife Helen; children John “Jack” Matera III. of Ft. Wayne, Tom Matera of Indianapolis, Maureen Matera of Ft. Worth, TX, Pam Matera of Elgin, SC, and Diann (Jim) Solloway of Ft. Wayne and grandchildren Michael, John and Jill.
Services will be 11:00 Thursday, September 3, 2015 at St. Therese Catholic Church 2304 Lower Huntington Rd., with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be 4-8 Wednesday Sept. 2, 2015 at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home 6424 Winchester Rd.
Burial in Catholic Cemetery. Preferred memorials to St. Vincent DePaul and ALS of Ft.Wayne.
