Dave was a graduate of North Side High School in 1971 and a proud graduate of Indiana University in Bloomington. Dave carried his Hoosier spirit throughout his life. He loved watching IU and Purdue basketball, especially when he could share the excitement with his friends. Whether celebrating a big win or debating a tough loss, those moments of camaraderie were among his favorites.
Dave had a thoughtful and curious mind. He was an avid reader who could often be found lost in a book, and he enjoyed the quiet strategy and challenge of a good chess match. These passions reflected his calm, analytical nature and his appreciation for lifelong learning.
Dave was also a devoted marathon runner, completing an extraordinary 81 marathons throughout his lifetime. Running was a daily joy for him, a cherished ritual that allowed him to feel the open air and the breeze on his face. His passion for the sport reflected his dedication, strength, and love of the outdoors.
He was the beloved son of John and Carolyn McPherson and grew up alongside his two sisters, Linda McPherson-Butler and Rebecca Laskowski (Bill), who cherished him dearly. Dave was a proud uncle to his nieces, Rachael Kemnic (Christopher) and Danielle Lyons, and he held a special place in his heart for them. He leaves three great nieces, one great nephew and six great, great nieces and nephews.
Dave also leaves behind his three stepchildren—Jeremy Webb (Nikita), Gina Webb, and JaNae Burgess—whose lives he touched with his kindness and love.
He also leaves behind twelve grandchildren. In his final days, he shared his quiet time with his dear friend, Craig Amacker, whose friendship brought him comfort, companionship, and peace.
Dave will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his quick wit, and the warmth he brought into every room. His legacy lives on in the memories of those who loved him and in the quiet, meaningful ways he shaped their lives.
