John Joseph Scherschel, 83, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2023, at IU Health University Hospital of Indianapolis. Born on January 18, 1940, in Fort Wayne, he was a son of the late Walter Henry and Loretta Lucille (Ensch) Scherschel. John served in the Air Force Reserve and worked as a Clerk and Yardmaster for Conrail (later CSX) Railroad for 30 years, retiring in 2003. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and nature. John is survived by his wife, Deborah (Foster) Scherschel; his son, Brian Scherschel; sisters, Sondra (Bud) Case, and Linda Lengacher; three nieces, and one nephew.
