John A. Tourney, 96, passed away on Monday, September 15, 2025. John was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on November 27, 1928, a son of the late Elza and Rose (Snyder) Tourney. He served in the United States Army as a military policeman, serving in the Korean War while being stationed in Germany. John was a lifelong member of St. Therese Catholic Church. He had a passion for coaching Elmhurst Little League and St. Therese basketball for over ten years. With his basketball team winning two CYO city titles. Most of all John had a love for fishing. He is survived by his children, Jane Tourney, John E. (Mary) Tourney, James (Shelley) Tourney, Janice (Tim) Gilbride, Joseph (Julie) Tourney, Jeffrey Tourney, and Jerome (Robin) Tourney; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Tourney; and siblings, Edward, Mary, Betty, and Robert. Visitation for John will be held from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm on Friday, September 19, 2025 at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home for Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46809. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, September 19, 2025 at St Therese Catholic Church, 2304 Lower Huntington Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46819. Burial to follow the service at Catholic Cemetery. Contributions in John's memory may be made to Parkview Hospice or Riley Children's Hospital.
