She was born on June 6, 1946, in Salem, MA, to Vincent and Marie Bane. She graduated from Central Catholic High School in Fort Wayne in 1964 and went on to attend International Business College. After working for the local telephone company, she married and devoted her life to raising her family, which is the role she cherished most.
Kathe never met a stranger. She had a gift for conversation and would enjoy a chat with everyone she met. Gathering with family brought her the greatest joy. Whether hosting, visiting, or simply sitting around the table playing cards, she treasured laughter, storytelling, and the closeness of those she loved.
She found peace and happiness near the water; from being by the ocean in her hometown of Salem, MA, to the many wonderful summers spent with family at Lake James. Being by the water, surrounded by her children and grandchildren, was where she felt most at home.
She is survived by her children, Jennifer Templeton (David) of Terre Haute, IN; Christopher “Kip” McCabe (Anya) and Ryan McCabe (Jessie), both of Chicago, IL; her grandchildren, Spencer Templeton, Katherine Templeton, Shaelei Row, Ava McCabe, Isla McCabe, Finnegan McCabe, and Abigail McCabe; her brother, Vincent Bane (Cindy); and her sister, Ellen Haugk (Jim).
Kathleen was preceded in death by the love of her life, Jack McCabe; her parents, Vincent and Marie Bane; her mother-in-law, Marguerite Jennings; and her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Jim Byro.
Kathe loved and appreciated her life and always had a positive outlook. She often spoke about the beautiful family legacy her parents began and took pride in the generations that followed. Her warmth, faith, and unwavering love for her family will be remembered by all who knew her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church, 7215 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne, IN, with visitation one hour prior.
