Sunshine met her Husband, Lt. Richard (Dick) Baird, in April of 1975 at Camp Hovey in Korea while working in the Post Exchange (PX). After a 6-month courtship which sometimes included chaperones, she agreed to marry Lt. Baird in October of 1975 after receiving approval and blessing from her family. Sunshine and now Captain Baird were married on September 5, 1976, at Cpt Baird’s home church in Clarksville, Indiana. Her first son, Richard Baird III, was born on July 15, 1977, at Fort Campbell, Ky while Cpt Baird was assigned to the 101st Airborne (Air Assault) Division. Her second son, Charles F. Baird was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana September 2, 1983.
Sunshine retired in 2006 as a waitress from the Mandarin Restaurant located at Stellhorn and Maplecrest Roads in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She had a strong belief in God and was a member of the choir at church. She had a wonderful classical trained voice, and it was a little bit of heaven to hear her sing.
She was a strong supporter of the Korean War veterans in Fort Wayne and helped start an annual Korean War veteran appreciation day at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She could never show enough appreciation to these great men and women who helped keep South Korea free.
Kuk Son is survived by her husband Richard Baird of Woodburn, IN; sons, Richard B. (Nikki) Baird III of Fort Wayne, IN; Charles F. Baird of Dallas, TX; grandson, Niko, Riley and Cooper Baird and a niece Ki Hyan Paek.
