Kusum Bhargava, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Nov 6, 2025. She was born on June 24, 1932, in Agra, India, to Shri Dwarika Prasad Bhargava (Babuji) and Shrimati Chanda Devi Bhargava (Amma).
The youngest of three siblings, Kusum grew up alongside her elder brothers, Om Prakash Bhargava and Satya Prakash Bhargava, in Agra. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Agra University, where she specialized in Hindi Literature and Sitar, reflecting her deep appreciation for language and music.
On February 14, 1955, at the age of 22, Kusum married Sarvottam Bhargava, affectionately known as "Raja". Their wedding in Agra was celebrated with traditional Bhargava customs and functions. They then built their life in Lucknow and New Delhi before settling permanently in Lucknow, where they created a warm and welcoming home. Together, they also grew the family business of book publishing into one of the largest publishing houses in northern India.
Kusum was the proud mother of two sons, Sanjay (married to Rolly) and Gautam (married to Reena). In later years, she moved to the United States to be closer to her family, living in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Palo Alto, California, with her sons/daughters-in-law. She delighted in the lives of her four grandchildren: Suhasini (married to Dean), Vasundhara (married to Alek), Nikhil (married to Dana), and Zoe. She was overjoyed at the arrival of her great-grandchildren, Athena (daughter of Suhasini and Dean) and Miles (son of Vasundhara and Alek).
Throughout her life, Kusum was cherished for her warmth, her loving nature, and her generous spirit. A wonderful cook, she loved to prepare traditional Bhargava family dishes in her Lucknow home. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, unwavering devotion to her family, and countless precious memories that will be treasured forever. Her light will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
