LaDonna Gerig

LaDonna J. Gerig, 90, of Berne, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2016, at Swiss Village where she was a resident. Born Aug. 20, 1925, she was a daughter of Jesse and Thelma Zook Litzenberg. She married Donavan "Don" Gerig on Aug. 5, 1948. LaDonna was a graduate of Woodburn High School and Fort Wayne Bible College. She worked for Fort Wayne Community Schools as an elementary school librarian and gave private piano lessons. Later, she was a librarian for the Adams County Edelweiss Singers Chorus. She loved her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are her husband of 67 years, Don; daughters, Becky (David) Ristau of Dana Point, Calif., Deb (John) Hilligoss of Columbia City; sons, Randy (Kristi) Gerig of Seattle, Wash., and Rick (Lori) Gerig of Fort Wayne; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Lois (Kent) VonGunten; and brother, Dennis (Sue) Litzenberg. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 23, 2016, at First Mennonite Church, Berne, with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Jerry A. Flueckiger officiating. Visitation also from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home. Burial in Greenlawn Memorial Cemetery & Mausoleum, Fort Wayne.
