LaVera Edna Hitzemann, 94, passed away May 1, 2025, at Saint Anne Retirement Home in Fort Wayne, IN. She was born on January 28, 1931, in Fort Wayne, the daughter of Louis and Mathilde Springer. LaVera graduated from Ossian High School in 1948.
She worked at Lincoln Life Insurance Company for 20 years and retired in 1989.
LaVera was a long-time and faithful member of Ascension Lutheran Church. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing euchre and pinochle, but spending time with her family brought her the most joy.
LaVera is survived by her daughters, Edna (James) Moore, The Villages, FL; Betty Hitzemann; grandson, Todd Schweyer; great-grandchildren, Ellie and Wyatt, all of Fort Wayne, IN. She is also survived by her sisters, Marcella Kronmiller of Fort Wayne, IN, and Doris Sowers of New Haven, IN.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Darrel H. Hitzemann; sister, Katherine Greene; brothers, Frederick, Edmund and Wayne Springer.
The funeral service will be 11:00 AM Friday, May 16, 2025, at Ascension Lutheran Church, 8811 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne, IN with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at D.O. McComb and Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road, Fort Wayne, IN. Committal and Burial will be at Highland Park Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Worship Anew or Ascension Lutheran Church.
