

Leland S. “Stan” Sanders, 80, of North Manchester, passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Hospice Home. He was born March 27, 1934 in Fort Wayne to the late George H. and Novella B. (Briner) Sanders. He graduated from Central High School in 1952. He retired from B. F. Goodrich Tire Company in 1994, after 28 years, as a Machine Maintenance Mechanic. He also retired from the U. S. Air Force as an Aircraft Mechanic with over 20 years and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a Certified Diamond Appraiser, having studied with the Gemological Institute of America and the Gemological Institute of Great Britain. He loved to cut gem stones, woodworking, and painting. He was a member of the U. S. W. local 715, and a life member of the Korean War Veterans Association, Chapter One, Fort Wayne. He is survived by his wife, Devonna; sons, Scott (Isabelle) Sanders of Texas and Robert Sanders of Colorado; daughter, Barbara (Larry) Cassel-Braden of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Cory Cassel, Hailey Cassel, Aaron Cassel, and Robert A. Sanders; one great granddaughter; five great grandsons; and friends of the family, Greg and Deb Cassel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Todd Hartman in 2013; brothers, Kenneth, George Jr., Arnold, and Donald; and sisters, Dorothy, Delores, Mary Lou, Kathleen, and Ida. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 10:30 AM at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 6750 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46804. Visitation will be on Monday, December 29, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be with Military Honor at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Preferred memorial may be made to the Korean War Veterans Association, Chapter One or to Visiting Nurse Hospice.
