Eulogy pt. 2...
I’ll miss handing him tools, and trips to Hires for car parts.   I’ll miss him carrying me to the car before sunrise to leave on our summer camping trips, and being scared to death in the back of the station wagon, flying through the mountains hoping the camper wouldn’t come off, and go over the cliff.  I’ll miss feeling guilty when I decided I was too old to hold his hand at K-mart.  I’ll miss calling him at work and hearing him say, “Lowell speaking” when he answers the phone.  I feel incredibly lucky to have been part of his life, and to have benefited so much from our time together.   Thank you for everything, Dad.

Eulogy pt. 1... Dad was an inventive, smart, quiet, funny, and humble man.  Dad was flea markets, bowling night, wood paneling, saw dust, Old Spice, PBR, motor oil, frozen cokes, and Hee-Haw.  He was from an era when cars could be fixed at home, and men knew how to fix them.  When you could meet the love of your life on roller skates.  When Kojack, Columbo, and Ironsides were fighting crime, the Cartwrights saved the day at the Ponderosa Ranch, and volunteer firemen were relied on to put out fires.  
Dad could hold a grudge for a lifetime, but he went easy on me when I did a few boneheaded things growing up.  Of course, I never accidentally killed the family cow, burned down the family home, or totaled a 54 corvette horsing around with friends.  Dad did these things, and he set a high bar for boys will be boys.  
I’ll miss my Dad.  I’ll miss him singing Be-Bop-a-Lula, and making popcorn.   I’ll miss the stories about his bright blue and yellow brush-painted car that used to cruise the streets of Huntertown.  I’ll miss the stories about his pet pigeon that would roost on his headboard, and poop on the floor behind his bed.  I’ll miss hearing about his childhood dog Brownie getting left at a rest area until Grandpa finally caved in and went back to find him.  I’ll miss his lectures about how to start an antique car without breaking my thumb or arm.  I’ll miss hearing about Grandpa helping him build a nicer soap box derby car that was slower than the ugly one he had built by himself.  I’ll miss the stories about working the concession stand at the drive-in theater where he served up heavily buttered popcorn, and “male” Hershey bars (with nuts).

To Lowell’s family:  I’m sorry to hear of Lowell’s passing.  I worked with him back in the 1990s as a fellow engineer at Tuthill Corporation.  Lowell taught me a lot about design engineering and in many ways was my engineering mentor.  And, he was a lot of fun to work with.

I enjoyed the many stories that Lowell told me, and enjoyed most of his jokes.  One thing I always remember that he told me was when Janis talked him into going on a cruise for vacation.  He didn’t sound like he was looking forward to it, but he told me when he got off the boat, he would’ve liked to get right back on and do it again as he had such a good time!

I bought a bike from Lowell, and I traded him my Mossberg 12 gauge shotgun for a violin that I think one of his children played.  I will miss Lowell, but I’m thankful that I had the opportunity to know him and will cherish the found memories of our time working together.   Lowell was a good man.  May he rest in peace.

It is with a heavy heart that I am here to say goodbye.  I have so many memories of our childhood.  My favorite is when Mom would take us shopping, you would step on the back of my heel to make my shoe come off.  Okay, just one more......when you were about five years old, you sawed my tricycle in half to use the wheels for a wagon you were going to make.  There are so many more memories I could bring up
but best be left unspoken.
