Margaret C. (Marge) (Lemke) Dettmer passed away on Monday October 20, 2014 at Ashton Creek Nursing Home. She was a lifetime resident of Fort Wayne, born to Henry & Marie (Beck) Lemke on June 27, 1920, the oldest of 4 children. She graduated in the class of 1938 from Central High School. In August of 1942, she married the love of her life, Roland (Rollie) H Dettmer, at St John’s Lutheran Church. She was employed at Magnavox on Beuter Road, and later became a full-time mother, sang in the choir of Grace Lutheran Church, and served faithfully as a PTA member, and as one of the first South Side High School Band parents. She also attended Huntertown United Methodist Church as able.
Surviving are a daughter, Kay (Eric) Beemer of Fort Wayne, and a son, Jay Roland (Debbie) Dettmer, of Ellicott City, Maryland. Beloved grandchildren are Autumn Beemer, Nathan (Jackie) Beemer, Roland (Paula) Beemer, Pacia (Wade) Carpenter, Blair Dettmer, Tori (Chadd) Heath, and Lisa (Shane) Miller, great granddaughter Annabelle Miller, and great great grandson Blake Carpenter, as well as many nieces and nephews, and her longtime friends, Doris Klage, Mel Schott, and Rita Stump.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Roland H Dettmer, sister Miriam (Berton) Bolyard, and brothers H Karl Lemke and Paul L Lemke, and her loyal companions Ruby & Scotia.
She loved singing, enjoyed her dogs, was a great cook, and had a great sense of humor. She was an avid reader of the newspaper, and had an incredible memory of peoples’ names and their lives. She will be sorely missed by her family, who treasure the many good times we shared together, and the gift of love she gave to us. We give thanks to God for our mother.
