

She was the daughter of Lowell and Fern Newman and grew up in Fort Wayne while spending summers at the family farm in Wolcottville.
She was a member of the Junior League of Fort Wayne, The Fort Wayne Country Club and Pi Chapter of Psi Iota Xi. One of her fondest jobs was bringing theater to Fort Wayne through the Psi Iota Xi Theater series. She had been a member of the board of Family and Childrens Services, the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, The Limberlost Girl Scout Council and was President of the YWCA at the time of their move to the Villa.
She was a graduate of South Side High School, Ohio Wesleyan University and received her masters degree from the University of Pittsburg.
Marilyn retired at an early age from Lincoln Life Insurance to take care of the family farms upon the death of her father. She found she loved farming and was active in managing the farms until her death.
She is survived by her nieces Patricia Spangle of Fort Wayne and Carolyn Barnardi of Pescadero, California. She is also survived by two grand nieces and five great grand nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Louise Benz and her niece, Sandra Benz. Services will be Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 10:30 am at Klaehn, Fahl and Melton (6424 Winchester Road, Fort Wayne) with a private burial in Woodruff, Indiana.The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 on the day of the service. Memorials may be made to the charity of donors choice.
