Mary Ellen McCartney

Mary was born September 6, 1925 in Saint Joe County, South Bend, Ind. to Rose (Papai) Fritz and Harry Chester Fritz. Mary was one of six children, she had two brothers and three sisters.

Mary Ellen Fritz married William "Jim" McCartney on May 16, 1945, in San Francisco, Calif. while William proudly served his country in the United States Navy; William passed on August 15, 1987. From this union, Mary and William had three children; their first-born child, Jerry Wayne, was born December 27, 1945, in San Francisco and passed on July 16, 1948, in South Bend, Ind., his final resting place is Saint Joe Valley Cemetery in Mishawaka, Ind.; Patrick Michael McCartney was born January 3, 1948, and passed on January 14. 2023 and his final resting place is Prairie Grove Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Calvin James McCartney is their only surviving son.

Mary is survived by her son, Calvin (Cindy) McCartney of Fort Wayne, Indiana; Daughter-in-Law, Roxanna (Patrick) McCartney, of Fort Wayne, Indiana; five grandchildren, Kenneth (Kim) McCartney of Fort Wayne, Dawn (Jim) Hess of Fishers, Ind., Shannon M. (Clint) Seewald of Denver, Colo.; Sandra (Jim) Barrand of Fort Wayne, and Timothy McCartney of Muncie, Indiana; eight great grandchildren, Tanner McCartney, Lauren McCartney, Morgan (Jeremiah) Pedroza, Alyssa (Ethan) Dove, Kami McCartney, Trinity and Emmitt Barrand, and Graham Seewald; and seven great-great grandchildren.

Mary enjoyed gardening, tending to her roses, square dancing, needle point, and fishing.

A Celebration of Life is 2:00 pm Wednesday, August 16, at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Home - Covington Knolls, 8325 Covington Road, Fort Wayne with calling one hour prior. Interment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne where Mary will be laid to rest alongside her husband William J McCartney.
