Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Weaver Griffis, 95, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Sunday September 29, 2013 at Adams Heritage Nursing Home, Monroeville. Born on January 23, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Vilas Kappel. A member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Fort Wayne, she was a 1939 graduate of St. Joe Hospital School of Nursing, and retired in 1979 from FWCS as supervisor of health services.
She is survived by her daughters, Janie (Marty) Nycum, of Fort Wayne, and Julie (Dan) Miller, of Hoagland; step-children, Kenton (Betsy) Griffis, Barb (Mike) Miller, Sandra (Kent) Price, Cheryl (Dan) Kumfer and Janine (Peter) Griffis; as well as 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Richard Weaver and Norman Griffis; daughter Mary Jo Relue; son, Mark Weaver; and sister, Dorothy Badders.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Wednesday October 2, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 10700 Aboite Center Road, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Calling will also be held from 3 to 7 PM Tuesday October 1, at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Homes, Winchester Road Chapel, 6424 Winchester Road, Fort Wayne. Memorial donations may be given to the St. Mary’s Soup Kitchen.
