Maurice “Butch” F. Heckman, 96 years, son of the late Carl & Elsie (Roembke) Heckman of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2024 at the Towne House Retirement Community. He retired from Rea Magnet Wire after 42 years of service and was a faithful servant at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church as a trustee. Butch grew up south of Fort Wayne on a farm. It was there he learned to love John Deere tractors. For many years, he did the lawn care and mowing at Mt. Calvary with his trusted John Deere.
Surviving are his children, Cynthia (James) Gerke, Bonita (William) Cook, Terence (Theresa) Heckman, Pamela (Dennis) Strater; his loving companion, Laura K. Boyer; his grandchildren, Melissa Gerke, Jonathon Gerke, Brenda Stauffer, Brian Cook, Todd Heckman, Trisha Koble, Laura Wallace, Elizabeth Parker; 20 great grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild. Also surviving are his sisters, Betty Schroeder and Donna Fenner. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Barbara (Zoch) Heckman; his sister, Imogene Bultemeier; and his infant brother.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home for Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Rd, Fort Wayne, with visitation beginning at 10:00 am. Burial to follow the service at Covington Memorial Gardens. Contributions in Butch's memory may be made to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.
