

Melba J. Heinsman, age 87, of Leo-Cedarville, Indiana passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at home surrounded by family. She was a daughter of the late Ramas and Rhoda Schlatter, born on July 19, 1935 in Leo, Indiana.
"Jeannie," as she was affectionately known, was a graduate of Leo High School, Goshen College, and Moody Bible Institute. She met and married William Heinsman in November of 1956. They became Missionaries, and served in Taiwan from 1962-1997 with TEAM. After retiring from missionary service, she served as a volunteer at A Hope Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where she was able to use her certification in nursing. She was a former member of the Goshen Grace Brethren Church and later became a member of Grabill Missionary Church, serving on the missions committee and singing in the Senior Saints Choir. She and her husband served faithfully at TEAM Radio China where she recorded English teaching programs for the purpose of evangelism, and served as accountant. Other ministries included church work, teaching Sunday School, Bible Studies, leading small groups, camp programs, and serving on the board of Morrison Academy.
Jeannie enjoyed knitting, jogging and cooking. Above all she loved caring for her family.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, "Bill" in 2015, and a brother, Leon Schlatter in 2019; sisters-in-law, Janet, Jewel and Carol.
Surviving are her children, Kris (Steve) Mante, Joe (Lana) Heinsman, Ron (Julie) Heinsman, Susan (Peter) Estell, and Randy (Angie) Heinsman; brothers, Don Schlatter and Allen Schlatter; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
A visitation for Jeannie will be held Thursday, March 9, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Grabill Missionary Church, 13637 State Street, Grabill, IN 46741. A Celebration of Jeannie's Life will be Friday, March 10, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the church with visitation an hour prior. Burial will follow in Leo Cemetery.
