Merrit Dennis Coomer

He graduated from Payne High School in 1961. Merrit married his wife, Dolly (Hambrock) Coomer, on September 14, 1963. He worked at Dana Corporation for 47 years, retiring in 2008.

He was passionate about ballroom dancing and attending showcases with his wife; he also enjoyed reading, music, riding his moped and was a captivating storyteller; he had an interest in boats, water and taught each of his children and grandchildren how to swim. He loved people and never met a stranger and would go out of his way to make someone feel comfortable and included; he was as unique as his name and could always make everyone laugh. He loved spending time with his family and will be greatly missed.

Surviving are his loving wife of 61 years, Dolly Coomer of Ft. Wayne, IN; daughters, Kim Coomer of Ft. Wayne, IN, Sherri Byus of Ft. Wayne, IN, Lori (Chris) Dyer of Ft. Wayne, IN and Jennifer Coomer of Cape Coral, FL; 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; brothers, Jerry (Ardis) Coomer of Boyceville, WI, Mike (Lois) Coomer of Monroe, WI, Phillip Coomer of Ft. Wayne, IN; and sisters, Alice (Ed) Wenninger of Van Wert, OH, Marilyn (Henry) Bertot of Titusville, FL, Carolyn Coomer of Holiday, FL and Janice (Brent) Swanson of Titusville, FL.

Merrit was preceded in death by his father, Cletus A. Coomer and mother, Alice (Stoller) Coomer; and brothers, Clarence Coomer and Dean Coomer.

A visitation will be at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Homes - Maplewood Park, 4017 Maplecrest Rd, Fort Wayne, IN 46815, on Thursday, May 22, 2025, from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be on Friday, May 23, 2025, at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Homes - Maplewood Park, at 11:00 AM, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial is to follow at Lindenwood Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to either Fighting Blindness Foundation - Fort Wayne Chapter or the American Heart Association in memory of Merrit.
