Miriam E. (Abbott) Harriss

Miriam E. (Abbott) Harriss, age 96, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at Brookdale Nursing Home. She was born on June 19, 1925, in Fort Wayne to Edgar and Nellie (Stalter) Abbott, and was their ninth child out of eleven.

Miriam graduated from South Side High School in 1943 and retired from Lincoln Life Insurance Co. She married Carl R. Harriss on October 20, 1951, and he preceded her in death in 2009, just shy of 58 years of marriage together. Her favorite hobbies included singing, dancing, and watching movies with happy endings. She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church since 1959. Miriam was deeply loved by her immediate and extended family. Surviving family members include her son, Thomas (Linda Dolby) Harriss; daughters, Carol Garcia, and Carla Moring; grandchildren, Kelly (Ryan) Wilson, Chad (Emily) Moring, Joel Moring, Vincent (Rebecca) Garcia, Derek (Brandee) Garcia, Andrew (Caitlin) Garcia, and Lucas Garcia; great-grandchildren, Samwise and Cora Garcia, Riley and Caleb Wilson, Julian, Veronica and Regina Garcia, Nathan and Kaley Moring, and Harrison Garcia. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death brothers, James, Paul, Richard, and John Abbott; and sisters Nedra Robinson, Martha Lagemann, Betty Elzey, Connie Laisure and Margery Ellis; and one son-in-law, Thomas Moring.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at D.O. McComb and Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Calling will also be held from 4:00 to 8:00pm on Wednesday, March 9, 2022. Burial will be in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne.
