

Morrell Shanahan Travis, 91, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, August 7, 2024. Morrell was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on May 6, 1933, the son of the late Morrell and Hilda (Sellers) Travis. After graduating from Elmhurst High School, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War, then graduated from the GE Apprentice School. He married the love of his life, Pat, on August 13, 1955. Morrell dedicated over 40 years of service to General Electric as a Mechanical Engineer, later retiring from both GE and PHD, Inc. He was a devoted member of St. Therese Catholic Church for over 20 years and was a member of the Historical Automobile Association. Morrell enjoyed playing golf on Tuesday nights at Foster Park while participating in the GE league. He had a passion for gardening, fishing, tinkering with his 1918 Oakland, spending summers at Lake James, and winters in Fort Myers Beach. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Morrell is survived by his wife of 69 years, Patricia (Cler) Travis; children, Tim (Linda) Travis, Tina (Don) Buttig, Tom Travis, and Tami (Bruce) Neireiter; grandchildren, Amanda (Mike) Karst, Mike (Tammy) Travis, Daniel (Amanda) Buttig, David Buttig, Ryan (Allison) Buttig, Alison Anderson, Morgan (Ben) Hackworth, Andrew Travis, Jack, Joshua, and Joseph Neireiter; 11 great-grandchildren (soon to be 12); sisters, Sue Ann Shideler and Joy (Terry) Hartman; brothers, John (Susie), Tom (Margie), and Jim (Tayne) Peirce; brother-in-law, Jerry (Barb) Cler; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his in-laws, Oscar and Lenora Cler, Susie (John) Shappell, and Keith Shideler. The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice and Lutheran Life Villages – Pine Valley for the love and care they provided Morrell. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at St. Therese Catholic Church, 2304 Lower Huntington Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46819 with visitation one hour prior. Burial to follow the service at Covington Memorial Gardens. Contributions in Morrell's memory may be made to St. Therese Catholic Church for Masses.
