Nancy Rose Huff

Nancy Rose Huff, 84, passed away October 31, 2025, at Golden Years Retirement Home in Fort Wayne, IN. after a short illness. She was the daughter and first of four children born to Casimer and Evelyn Kanczuzewski (née Knepper). She was born on December 11, 1940, in Grand Rapids, Michigan and the family moved back to Fort Wayne soon after.

Nancy attended Washington Elementary and graduated from Central High School in 1959. During high school, she worked weekends at her grandmother’s neighborhood grocery on Spring Street. After graduation, she worked in several jobs before starting her career at the Fort Wayne Post Office, where she sorted letters and packages.

Always one of the taller ones in any group, Nancy found a Fort Wayne social group called the Tall Club where her 5’11” height was normal. She enjoyed new friends with a common bond. One of those she met she described as “this really cute guy”, was named Richard Huff. They dated and were friends for 10 years before marrying on February 12, 1972.

Nancy always loved animals. After a car, her next big purchase was a full-blooded German Shepherd puppy. She joined the German Shepherd Dog Club to train and show her dog regularly. Nancy (and Richard) have owned and loved many dogs and cats over the years.

Nancy later learned how to sew and started making all of her own clothes, shirts for Richard and gifts for family members. Nancy loved spending time with family.

They bought their home on Nevada Ave. soon after they were married, and enjoyed planting flowers, bushes and trees to attract birds. They enjoyed watching nature in their yard. Their vacations were spent in their pop-up camper at state parks hiking and bird watching.

Nancy is survived by her sisters, Sally Kanczuzewski of New Haven, Indiana, Carol (Roger) Onken of Carroll, Iowa; three nephews, Scott Huff, Christopher Dively and Adam Onken; and three nieces, Mary Rathgaber, Jennifer Mandelbaum and Cassia Mayweather.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Nevin Huff, March 2021; and a brother, David Kanczuzewski, August 2024; a sister-in-law, Nancy J. Kanczuzewski; and brother-in-law, R. Lawrence Huff.

Funeral service for Nancy will be 1:30 pm on Friday November 7, 2025, at D.O. McComb and Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, Indiana, with visitation two hours prior. Committal and burial will be held at Concordia Gardens Cemetery, 5300 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fort Wayne Humane Shelter.
