Still miss you everyday... but I know your with me always...

It has been a year tomorrow... and I still miss you everyday.  I know you are with me, but I really wish I could sit and talk with you.  Till I see you again...

I was very saddened by the news of Mrs. McKinney's passing. Having been school friends with Mike and Deb I was very acquainted with the family. She always made me feel welcome and I will miss her unending optimism and contagious laughter!  After many years I had re-connected with her recently during a chance meeting at a carwash about a year or year and a half ago.  I didn't connect the dots til after I left the carwash but I was able to connect with her on facebook and thru e-mail.  I sincerly pray her family recieves peace and comfort during this time as I know Mrs. McKinney will be greatly missed.

I feel so blessed to have known Pat through our Red Hat Chapter.  She was a wonderful  "Queen" and gracious leader and true friend.  Pat always had a smile and kind words for everyone.  We will miss her so much.

Forty-five years ago the Chapman Family moved in beside the McKinney Family. Since that day, our lives became more and more intertwined. We five kids loved both Moms, both Moms let us have it when we were in trouble and we quickly learned if we did something wrong telling the other mother just got you in double trouble because Pat would discuss it with us and make us go home and tell our Mom. Mom did the same to Mike and Deb. All of you are in my prayers now and will be. I know how hard it is for you to adjust that Pat is gone, we too are adjusting. I learned so much from Pat over the years, most importantly to do things properly, stay positive and love each and everyone who came into our circle of friends. Pat was our second Mom, second grandma, and loved by all of us. As a teacher, she was the one who took the 8th graders to Washington DC. I know it was a challenge one year, as my son was part of the group. He was precocious, followed politics and could talk quite well on the subject, better than the candidate in office at that time. Somehow, Pat convinced him not to ask the questions that would have made a fool out of the person. Justin was very grateful that she was there, he purchased the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition not for the pictures, but because there was an article on the Washington Redskins in the magazine. A parent confiscated it and turned it over to Pat who brought it home and turned it over to us. It was finally permanently confiscated, once the boys in class all got their heads over it during class. Pat just laughed. Our hearts are filled with sorrow right now, finding words to describe the love we had for Pat is difficult. I know that I am where I am today because I learned from her. The power of positive thinking and looking at the glass as half full, not half empty. Hold my head up and do the right thing.In memory of Pat, I posted the following on Facebook. I don't have the words to express the very special place she had in my heart, or that all of you have in my heart. I know that I will miss her, just as all of you will do the same, please, accept my deepest condolences and know that I wrote the following as best as I could upon finding that she went home last Thursday.

Some of you from the Homestead Area most likely knew Pat McKinney, as she substitute taught at Homestead. Pat died last night. I don't think I can write a tribute to her that will mean much, I can however, tell all of you that she was a loving woman who saw the glass as half full all the time. I was 13 when we moved in next door to Pat and Roger, Mike and Debra. Mike was 7, Debra was under a year old. We 5 kids, (my brother, sister and me as well as Debra and Mike) were very, very lucky, Not only did we have our own set of parents to help guide us, we also had (in our case) Pat and Roger. while Mom and Dad were always there for Mike and Deb. Pat taught us how to study and how to keep a positive attitude no matter how dire the consequences might be. When my Mom died in 2012, Pat was there. When I told my parents something, the next call I made was to Pat and Roger.

Pat always swore that my brother and I fought on the front lawn, Debra was known for coming over at age 5 (during finals week, Pat didn't graduate college until 1977) and saying to Mom "Mrs. Chapman, I'm hungry and my Mommy won't feed me"

All 5 of us kids knew that if we didn't want to be in trouble we most certainly made sure that neither set of parents knew what we were doing or had done. because if we didn't we got it from both sets of parents.

Mom and Pat were two peas in a pod, the two of them held the umbrella over both of our homes, together sheltering us from the storms of life, we all knew that both Pat and Mom were there to help and love us. Both wonderful women have now gone home to Christ, Will you please keep Pat's family in your prayers this weekend, as they get used to having their Mom, Grandma, Great-grandma Home, reunited with each other and safely in the bosom of Jesus. I love you Pat and I love you Mom. We are going to miss both of you so very much. Thank you Jesus for taking care of our wonderful Mothers for us. I look forward to the day when I join them in the bosom of your love,

I love you, Pat and I love Roger, Deb, Mike, Lynda the grands and the great grands too. You have gone on before us, yet you are still here in everyone's hearts and behavior. Thank you for sharing Pat with us, it was a special gift that we all cherish.

Prayers of comfort  for each and every  family member.  Be assured that she is loved and will be missed. May God bless  all of you.

I worked with Pat for 8 years at Portage Middle School. She was a very caring, generous person, who LOVED her family.  She once came to me and said, would you pray for/with me. I stopped what I was doing, we went into her office and prayed, the tears streaming down her face. She had received the diagnosis. From that day, I never saw her down about it again. I believe she just needed that push of encouragement. For Christmas that year, she walked in my office and said, this reminds me of you. It was a figurine of a black woman dressed up, carrying a bible, which sits in my curio cabinet to this day. I think at that point, I cried.  When I got diagnosed with cancer, Pat did not hesitate to contact me to give me that push of encouragement. EVERY year she sent me a Christmas letter, to let me know how the family was doing. WELL DONE, PATRICIA MCKINNEY. TAKE YOUR BOW, YOU'VE EARNED IT!!!

Pat was a beautiful lady, with a sweet personality and a positive attitude that shaped her entire life.  She was an inspiration to me and, I'm sure, to everyone who knew and loved her.  Our world was a happier place for her presence, and we will miss her.  My deepest sympathy to Roger and her family.  Rest in Peace, dear Pat.

I was so sad to hear of Pat's passing.  I have so many memories of all the trips we took together. I want to extend my deepest sympathy to all of you.  May you find comfort knowing she is resting in peace

Pat was a very special friend of ours. She was always so positive and a very caring person. She was our first neighbor when we moved back to Indiana. That was many years ago, and we have been friends ever  since. She will be truly missed as our neighbor at the lake. She has enriched our lives. But I know she is now rejoicing with her Father in heaven!  Gordon and Joyce
