

Patrick L. "Pat" Welch, 82, was taken to be with his Lord on August 26, 2025. He was born the son of George and Ramona Welch on March 9, 1943, who preceded him in death. He graduated from Elmhurst High School in 1961 and then studied art at Columbus College of Art and Design, Cleveland Art Institute, and Kansas Art Institute. He is survived by a son, Zachary (Monica); sister, Sharon Gilford; brother-in-law, Michael Olson; and multiple nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen Olson; and his brother-in-law, Norman Gilford. He devoted his career to education, first from 1971 through the 80s as an art director at Charles E. Merrill Publishing Company, a textbook publishing firm and then as an esteemed professor from 1991 through the 2000s at Columbus College of Art and Design, retiring in 2010. While at CCAD he served as an associate professor of Foundation Studies, a program for all beginning students as well as teaching three-dimensional drawing and lettering among other courses. In the eighties, he also established Welch Studios where he created architectural renderings for many Columbus Ohio businesses. After retirement, he relocated back to Fort Wayne, Indiana and spent his time focused on his personal passion as a Ham Radio Operator which he had excelled in all his life beginning at the age of ten. The family would also like to acknowledge his wonderful care team including Subreena Spencer Nee Khan, Elizabeth Nicholson, and Jessica Winslow. He was greatly loved and will be dearly missed. A gathering of family and friends will be 11:30 am on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 6750 Covington Road, Fort Wayne with a short service and inurnment following.
