

Paul W. “Doc” Dannecker, 91, of Fort Wayne, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 9, 2013, with his family by his side. Born on April 6, 1922, in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late William “Pete” and Amelia (nee. Koenig) Dannecker. A member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne, he proudly served his country in the Army in WWII, where his Combat Command B 9th Armored Division was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation (Army) for Extraordinary Heroism. He was a past Commander of American Legion Post # 296, and retired from General Electric.
He is survived by his daughters, Jill E. (Fred) Bueker and Beth A. (Arnie) Dannecker-Noe; and grandchildren, Alex Bueker and Christopher Noe. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruth (nee. Doty) Dannecker, and brother Richard E. Dannecker.
Funeral service will be held at 11 AM Thursday June 13, at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Homes, Wayne Street Chapel, 420 West Wayne Street, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior to service. Calling will also be held from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday June 12, at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, with military honors. Memorial donations may be given to the Almira Historical Society, the Indiana University Athletic Department, the American Cancer Society, or the American Heart Association.
