Peggy Ilene Gray

Peggy was born in Los Angeles, California on April 12, 1941. She graduated from East High School in Wichita, Kansas and continued her education in Interior Design at the University of Wichita (now Wichita State University).

Peggy was an Interior Designer for over ten years with various companies in St. Louis, Missouri and Bettendorf, Iowa before taking those skills permanently as a decorator of her own family’s homes. Peggy was an avid reader, cook and talented artist whose acumen was self-taught and refined with the same well-trained eye for decorating homes. She loved to travel, with Santa Fe, New Mexico a favorite. Peggy’s greatest love throughout her life was spending as much time as possible with family and friends; talking, laughing and playing games.

Peggy was married to Gregory Allan Gray on April 14, 1960 in Wichita, Kansas. They deeply loved each other and were married for 43 years before Greg’s passing in 2003.

Left to cherish Peggy’s memory are her sons Dodd (Abbe), their children Dodd Jr. (Julie) and Roseline Gray, and Peggy’s first great-grandson Dodd Joseph III; Chandler (Lori) and their children Carver, Lane and Edge Gray; and Chloe and Jack Gray, daughter and son of the late Darren Gray.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband Gregory Allan Gray and oldest son Darren Taylor Gray.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at the chapel in the Towne House Retirement Center, Fort Wayne, IN, with an opportunity to visit with the family immediately afterward.

As Peggy was an avid pet lover, in lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate that donations be made to Humane Fort Wayne – Formerly Allen County SPCA.

The families of Dodd and Chandler Gray wish to extend their deepest gratitude to the entire staff at the Towne House Retirement Center who provided both community and amazing care to Peggy over the years and with whom she developed many friendships.
