

PHIL PENCE, aka P.P. Flipper, and Pete by his friends, 74, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at his home. Born Dec. 29, 1940 in Fort Wayne, he was a son of the late Charles E. and Anna M. (Bowers) Pence. Phil worked for Feighner Corporation for three years from 1961 to 1964; part-time for Dehner Excavating, Radabaugh Brothers Trucking, and co-owner of Pence Movers. From there, he went to work for Magnavox as a group leader for 8 1/2 months and was later employed full-time at BF Goodrich for 37 1/2 years; from which he retired. He was a board member for the Class of 1961, Central High School, for one year and a proud member of the BF Goodrich Retirement Club. He was also a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and the head of the board for the nursery and Sunday school education for two years, Deacon for four years and helped install the pipe organ at church. Phil was a very outgoing and friendly man who loved to tell jokes and make people laugh. He will be greatly missed by both his family and friends. Surviving are his sons, Philip E. (Laura) Pence II and Richard A. (Michelle) Pence, both of Fort Wayne; his daughter, Michelle R. (Bryan) Adams of Fort Wayne; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; stepson, Kevin McCorkle of Fort Wayne; and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Sharon K. Pence; daughter of John and Alice Plunkett, in March of 1978 from Melanoma; he later married his wife of 21 years, Bonnie Hemmingway, who passed in 2005 from Lung Cancer; infant son, John Charles Pence; grandson, Jeremy Scott Pence; and several siblings. Funeral Service is 11 a.m. Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 6750 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior.
