Phyllis Lorraine Evans, 83, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Grey Stone Health and Rehabilitation Center in Fort Wayne. Born Dec. 15, 1942, in East Chicago, Indiana, she graduated from Rochester High School in Rochester, Indiana, in 1961 and earned an associate degree in accounting from International Business College in Fort Wayne in 1962.
Phyllis worked as an accountant for Lebrato Brothers Homebuilders for 37 years and later for Goodwill Industries of Northeast Indiana for 10 years, retiring in 2011. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she met her late husband, Wayne Eugene Evans, in 1964. They were married on April 3, 1965, and enjoyed 51 wonderful years together.
Phyllis will be remembered for her unconditional love and devotion to her family, shown through a lifetime of quiet acts and her remarkable ability to make things happen seamlessly behind the scenes.
Surviving is her son, Michael (Cheryl) Evans of Fort Wayne; daughter, Michelle (Douglas) MacLachlan of Arlington Heights, Illinois; and grandchildren, Aubrey and Austin MacLachlan of Arlington Heights, Illinois.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Morton and Verna Lorena Hall Howdeshell; her brother, Larry Joe Howdeshell; and her beloved husband, Wayne, who passed away on April 4, 2016.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 27, 2026, from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm, at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Home - Pine Valley Park, 1320 East Dupont Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46825.
The funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, March 28, 2026, in the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, 300 West Wayne Street, Fort Wayne with calling one hour before. Rev. Dr. An will be officiating the service. Burial in Covington Memorial Gardens in Fort Wayne, at a later date.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
